The artifact for this course is the final project - a fully designed online course using the Canvas Learning Management System. I built a course for health education, aligning it to the California state standards. It consists of eight modules, including the six strands:

 

Nutrition and Physical Activity

Growth, Development, and Sexual Health

Injury Prevention and Safety

Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs

Mental, Emotional, and Social Health

Personal and Community Health

 

adding Life Skills and a culminating module, for a total of 32 lessons.

 

The course design includes outlines of all homework assignments and overviews of in-class activities. 

 

The project met the objectives:

  • Identify current and emerging technologies and applications used to design and create online learning environments.
  • Learn and apply the Design Thinking process
  • Design and present an online learning environment of their choice applicable to their work or avocation.

and outcomes:

  • Understand the principles of the learning theories of the 20th and 21st Centuries and how they might be used to the design of online learning environments.
  • Explore and use a variety of current and emerging technology tools and resources that expand and enhance learning in online environments.
  • Individually design, create, and present an online learning environment – selecting one of the online learning models explored – that demonstrates a vision for incorporating current and emerging learning technologies and pedagogical approaches to teach 21st Century Skills and that is applicable to their work and profession.
