THTR 12A, Performance Studies, was my Cultures & Ideas course from freshman year. This is the second quarter of a two-quarter sequence. It was taught by Professor Michael Zampelli, SJ. He was a terrific teacher and his intense grading style helped me develop my writing skills.

In this section, you will find two of my best essays from the course. We studied performative aspects of different eras, including postmodernism (A Doll's House), Sanskrit Drama (Sakuntula), Greek Theater (The Oresteia), Shakespeare (The Tempest), and modern adaptations of Shakespeare (A Temptest). We also wrote a few essays for each of these units. The course load was pretty heavy for a core class, but even after a few all-nighters, I enjoyed this course.
